EFFECT OF HEIGHT AND DIAMETER RATIO ON
STRENGTH OF CEMENT STABILIZED SOFT BANGKOK CLAY

ABSTRACT

 
In this paper, the effects of specimen dimensions and the ratios of height to diameter (L/D) of the specimens on strength characteristics of soft Bangkok clay stabilized with cement were studied. From the result of Atterberg's limits, it revealed that liquid limits decreased when curing period and cement content increased. Plastic limit decreased and plastic limit increased. In addition, the specific gravity increased when the curing period and cement content increased. Unconfined compression strengths of specimens at the ratios of height to diameter of 1.0, 1.5 and 1.8 were 64, 30 and 14 percent higher than the specimens with diameter of 107.30 mm. The unconfined copression strength of the specimens coring from field test are slightly lower than those from laboratory test. Moreover, the relationship between undrained shear strength (Su) and average Young modulus, E50 , are also discussed.
